A mixture of sun and rain, wind 10 miles per hour from the SE.I am going NE.
I plan to clean the bike and get some oil, Simon Biggin will know how important it is to keep a clean bike.
I have a eye infection so a trip to the pharmacy is also on the agenda. Generally the body is recovering well after each day. I am managing to find motels and places to stay, it is too cold to camp at night.
The gaptrac software is still not working, so off to fiddle with my phones.
Hi Dad
Thanks for the birthday message. I’ve serviced my bike; fixed on bottle cages, lights and new handle bar tape and I cant wait to join you on the open road. I’ve been working tiring days at Jesus College, starting at 6 45 so with any luck i’ll be up before you and raring to go in the mornings! Glad to hear your body’s behaving.
Lots of love
Ted
Dear Ted
great to hear from you.
Good to hear that you have got the bike serviced. I thought I was worth bringing some waterproof ,it rains alot. Also a spare pair of shoes for the evening. bring a waterproof hat cycling hat and warm cycling gloves. If there is anything else I will let you know.
I wanted to know if you can view the reply that I have just sent to simon?
Of to buy my lunch as there are nothing between Tok and the Canadian boarder.
I hope the early mornings are not to painfull.
Love
Dad.
Really pleased to hear the body is holding up in those extreme conditions but I’m sorry to hear about the eye infection. I hope you get it sorted easily. What a shame you can’t camp??!! and use your new luxury cooking facilities. I expect Ted won’t mind staying in motels though. He has some useful new birthday bits and pieces to bring with him including chamois cream and waterproof high-viz socks! I can imagine the scenery is stunning – probably even so more than the Essex countryside we were riding around in this weekend. I hope your bike is still in tip-top condition – I’m very pleased to hear that you are keeping up your usual standards of bike cleanliness. Looking forward to hearing when you’ve managed to turn right and start heading downwards. That feels more like the right direction! Lots xxx
Photos from the web show huge rugged landscapes complete with glaciers. Hopefully Glenn Highway is following the valley. You are probably past Slana and may be nearly at Tok? (Complete with a Westmark Hotel and plenty of trees!). At least you can push SE from Tok. Hope distances between cafes/food are not too vast.
Simon and I are looking forward to our 100m Wessex cycle on Sunday. Should be sunny. Staying at Bath Univ Sat night (perhaps in your Hall). We’ll try to imagine mountains all around us – even if we are on Salisbury plain!
Well done. Keep pedalling! Chris
Mark,
Good luck! Will be following along with your trip. Look forward to seeing some pictures and hearing of your adventures.

Great to hear from you. I had a great stay with you in your new sunny condo in Brooklyn, I will recomment Airbnb and your place to anyone heading to New York.
I left Ancorage on Saturday PM and have just got to the Canadian boarder. Quite a good first week on tour. Alaska has been spectacular and very rainy.
Once I workout how to down load pictures from my phone then I will load them on to the web site.
Mark.
